NickServ is a Network Service

The following is a full list of all public NickServ commands, viewable by typing: /msg nickserv help when connected to our IRC network.

REGISTER: /msg nickserv register password emailaddress
The password you choose needs to be at least five characters, which includes letters and numbers, and is case sensitive (ie: Hello and hello are different passwords!). Simply insert the one you choose into the command in place of the word password. Substitute your actual email address for the word email address. Emails will only be sent to you in the event that you forget your password. Once you have successfully registered, you should receive a notice from NickServ that you have done so.
GROUP: /msg nickserv group MainNick MainNick'sPassword
This command lets you group up to 16 nicknames together under one password allowing you to switch between them once you're identified without needing to identify again. Switch to the un-registered nickname that you wish to group, then type the command, using the nickname and password of the nick you're grouping to.
GLIST: /msg nickserv glist
Using this command will show you all the nicknames you have grouped with your nickname. You may only use this command on your own nickname.
IDENTIFY: /msg nickserv identify password
Each time you visit the network, you need to use the above command to identify with NickServ. You must be identified to register channels, gain ops, send and receive memos, change nickname and/or channel settings, etc. If you're using mIRC, you can put this command into performs: mIRC options > IRC > Performs. Enable performs, type the command in the window, click ok. You may have to specify which network to perform it on, our network is in the list. mIRC will now log you in automatically upon connecting.
ACCESS: /msg nickserv access add|del|list HOST
This is the list of addresses which will be automatically recognized by NickServ as allowed to use the nick. If you want to use the nickname from a different location/house, you need to send an IDENTIFY command to make NickServ recognize you at this new location.
- Adding a new host to your access list:
/msg nickserv access add host-here
- Deleting a host from your access list:
/msg nickserv access del host-here
- Viewing your access list:
/msg nickserv access list
- DISPLAY: /msg nickserv set display NewDisplay
This option changes the display (main Nickname) used to refer to your nickname group with. The new display must be a nick of your group.
- PASSWORD: /msg nickserv set password newpassword
Changes the password used to identify you as the nickname's owner. You must be using the nickname, and identified, to change the password associated with it.
- LANGUAGE: /msg nickserv set language insertnumber
Changes the language services uses when sending messsages to you (for example, when responding to a command you sent). The number must be chosen from the following list of supported languages:

- URL: /msg nickserv set url http://www.yoururl.com
Associates the given URL with your nickname. This URL will be displayed whenever anyone requests information on your nickname using the INFO command.
- EMAIL: /msg nickserv set email emailaddress
Changes the email address associated with your nickname. You must be using the nickname, and identified, to change the email address associated with it.
NOTICE: Your email address is hidden by default from the INFO command, except to WikkedWire Staff.
- ICQ: /msg nickserv set ICQ icqnumber
Associates the given ICQ number with your nickname. This number will be displayed whenever someone requests information on your nickname using the INFO command.
- GREET: /msg nickserv set greet greethere
Displays a greet message when you enter a channel that has the Greet option enabled, provided you're on that channel's access list with the necessary access on it.
- KILL: /msg nickserv set kill on
This option gives you 60 seconds to identify with NickServ before changing your
nickname to a a guest nick. Useful in protecting your registered nickname from someone else using it.
- - KILL Quick: /msg nickserv set kill quick
This option gives you 20 seconds to identify with NickServ before changing your nickname to a guest nick. Useful in protecting your registered nickname from someone else using it.
- - KILL Immed: /msg nickserv set kill immed
With this option, your nick will be changed immediately without being warned first or given a chance to change your nick. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS OPTION. When this option is set, and your hostname changes (or is not on your ACCESS list), you WILL NOT be able to use your nickname until it expires (30 days from last IDENTIFY)
- SECURE: /msg nickserv set secure on
This option turns NickServ's security features on for your nickname. With secure set, you must enter your password before you will be recognized as the owner of the nick, regardless of whether your address is on the access list. However, if you are on
the access list, NickServ will not auto-kill you. To turn this option off, simply type: /msg nickserv set secure off.
- PRIVATE: /msg nickserv set private on
This command turns NickServ's privacy option on for your nickname. With private set on, your nickname will not appear in the nickname lists generated with NickServ's LIST command. However, anyone who knows your nickname can still get information on it by using the INFO command. To turn this option back off, simply type: /msg nickserv set private off.
NOTICE: WikkedWire Staff members can still see your nickname using the LIST command.
- - HIDE EMAIL: /msg nickserv set hide email on
Allows you to keep your email address from appearing to anyone using the INFO command on your nickname. You may allow it to be shown again after using this command by typing: /msg nickserv set hide email off. This option is on by default.
NOTICE: WikkedWire Staff members can still see your email using the INFO command.
- - HIDE STATUS: /msg nickserv set hide status on
Hides your status in NickServ. See STATUS
- - HIDE USERMASK: /msg nickserv set hide usermask on
Allows you to keep your mask (@whatever) from appearing to anyone using the INFO command on your nickname. You may allow it to be shown again after using this command by typing: /msg nickserv set hide usermask off.
NOTICE: WikkedWire Staff members can still see your usermask using the INFO command.
- - HIDE QUIT: /msg nickserv set hide quit on
Allows you to keep your last quit message from appearing to anyone using the INFO command on your nickname. You may allow it to be shown again after using this command by typing: /msg nickserv set hide quit off.
- MSG: /msg nickserv set MSG on
This option tells services to communicate with you using messages instead of notices. To set it to use notices, type: /msg nickserv set msg off. This option is set on automatically, however some users occasionally need to use this command in order to see services responses to their commands or for scripting.
- AUTOOP: /msg nickserv set AUTOOP on
This option sets whether you are automatically opped when joining channels which you have access on via ChanServ. It is on by default.
DROP: /msg nickserv drop nickname
Cancels the registration of your nickname. You must be on the nickname and identified as owner (level 3) to use the command. This cannot be undone.
RECOVER: /msg nickserv recover nickname password
Kills another user who is using your registered nickname so that you may regain it. See GHOST.
RELEASE: /msg nickserv release nickname password
Used after the Recover command to regain your nickname. Once you use the command, switch to your nickname using: /nick nickname.
SENDPASS: /msg nickserv sendpass nickname
This option is used to have services send your password to the email address you provided when you registered your nick if you've forgotten it. On WikkedWire, this command is limited to WikkedWire Staff. If you need your password sent to you, simply /join #help and ask one of the staff to send it to you.
GHOST: /msg nickserv ghost nickname password
Use this command after a disconnection where your other nickname is still held by services. Once your held nickname has been killed, you may switch to it using: /nick nickname. This command, like RECOVER, can be used to kill anyone using your nickname.
ALIST: /msg nickserv alist
Using this command will show you the channels where you have access list status. You may only use this command on your own nickname.
INFO: /msg nickserv info nickname
Shows registration info on a nickname. Use this to find out if the nickname you want to register has been taken or not.
LIST: /msg nickserv list *
(Limited to WikkedWire IRC Operators)
LOGOUT: /msg nickserv logout
Reverses the effect of the identify command causing services to not recognize you as the owner of the nick. Please note that you won't be reminded by NickServ to re-identify.
STATUS: /msg nickserv status nickname
Shows the status of a nickname:
- 0 = not registered
- 1 = online but unidentified
- 2 = owner via access list only, cannot change nickname settings
- 3 = identified as owner of nick
UPDATE: /msg nickserv update
This command updates your current status, i.e. it checks for new memos, sets needed chanmodes (ModeonID) and updates your vhost and your userflags (lastseentime, etc).
- HELP: /msg nickserv help
This command lists all the available NickServ commands for your use. Simply look through the list, choose the command you need, then type this to see the syntax to execute it: /msg NickServ help commandname
NOTICE: This service is intended to provide a way for IRC users to ensure their identity is not compromised. It is NOT intended to facilitate "stealing" of nicknames or other malicious actions. Abuse of NickServ will result in, at minimum, loss of the abused nickname(s). Nicknames that are not used anymore are subject to the automatic
expiration, i.e. they will be deleted after 30 days if a IDENTIFY command is not issued in that time period.
